Kochi Prefectural Culture Hall was opened in November of 1976 as a scene for the creation and exchange of artistic culture such as music and theatre.
Equipped with the Great Hall (1,509 seats), available for use in concerts, theatre, ballet, opera and lectures etc., and the Small Hall (500 seats), available for use in concerts, traditional performing arts such as Noh theatre and Kyogen comic drama, lectures, piano concerts etc., it is the hub of the performing arts scene in Kochi.
Beginning with skilled performances of the arts from both home and abroad, it is used extensively for the presentation of our residentsf creative activities, rehearsals and nationwide workshops/assemblies, various conferences and such.
In addition, major upgrades are currently in progress due to the aging of the establishment and the need to become earthquake resistant, and there are plans for a re-opening in July, 2011.
Orange Hall (Great Hall)

The Orange Hall is Kochi Prefecturefs biggest multi-purpose hall, and with its latest refurbishment its capacity will increase from 1,504 seats to 1,509 seats. Despite being designed with an emphasis on catering to classical music events, the hull-shaped ceiling at the upper seating can be adjusted in height to change the hallfs reverberation time by 0~0.3 seconds, making it suitable to a wide variety of events. |
