Introduction
Presenting the "Holders of Japan's important intangible cultural properties"; artists whom have extraordinary skills, who are also known as "Japan's living treasures". Starting with 163 works from all of Japan's 160 living treasures from industrial arts throughout history and also including 17 works from 14 “Important intangible cultural properties holding groups”. Also on display will be related documents from 21 holders of “Selected Techniques for Preservation” and 10 cultural property preservation groups. All of these items will be displayed together at this exhibition.
Currently living in Ino Town, Agawa County in Kochi Prefecture, Sajio Hamada's Tosa Tengujoshi paper works and Yoshimichi Fujimoto, who spent some of his childhood in Kochi City, will have some of his porcelain design works shown. Also, from Tsuruki Yamazaki, who made a variety of tools (gauze) for making handmade Japanese paper in Kochi City, there will be documents related to the process of making these tools.
On display will be various forms of art that have been carried down and protected through time such as ceramics, textile dying, lacquerware, metal craft, wooden and bamboo craft, dolls, handmade Japanese paper, gold cutting and ivory craft. We hope that you enjoy the lovely world of Japanese industrial arts.
Please note that during the exhibition some works will be replaced for preservation (November 16th).
