Introduction
|
Pop Art started in America in the 1960s and grew quickly into an international phenomenon. Its name originated from the term “popular art”, and it incorporates familiar motifs such as those found in advertising and comics. Spanning the course of half a century, Pop Art has taken on many forms. Contemporary artists have brought renewed attention to the genre using the latest computer graphic tools and reproduction methods. In this exhibition we will be showcasing around 100 works from the Misumi Art Collection, Pop Art celebrities from the 60’s such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, the much-adored Keith Haring from the 80’s, active contemporary artists Vic Muniz, Marina Kappos and David LaChapelle, plus many more. Using the keyword “Pop”, we bring you a sampling of art from the United States, a country that continues to lead the contemporary art scene.
Featured artists
Jean-Michel Basquiat, Chuck Close, Richard Diebenkorn, Jim Dine, Keith Haring, Donald Judd, Marina Kappos, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Vic Muniz, James Rosenquist, David Salle, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, and others.
