The Museum of Art, Kochi Spring Screening
“Quebec Film Festival” Festival de Films Québécois
Quebec lies in the eastern region of Canada and is the largest of the ten Canadian provinces. It is a place where the official language is French and where distinctive art, culture and entertainment are cultivated. Montreal, the city representative of the Quebec, is home to the world renowned Montreal World Film Festival and many companies in the film industry, making it a truly “cinematic city.”
While being influenced by America and France, Quebec films still maintain their own identity which creates an allure that Hollywood and French films do not possess. These pieces are so memorable because of how they carefully depict the truth of society and strike a chord deep within. Recently, there have also been many fantasy and animated films that young children and youths can enjoy as well. In addition, major Hollywood hits such as JurassicPark and Titanic are supported by Quebec’s film industry through their special effects and CG technology. Quebec, with an environment where the big city and nature coexist, is an attractive filming location that actively welcomes visitors. It is not often that one is exposed to modern Quebec films, so come and enjoy the polyphonic “now” they create through the harmony of diverse people and cultures.
