Introducing the Production
In this production, Sadari Movement Laboratory takes the story of “Woyzeck” to the stage. It describes the life story of a low-ranking soldier, Johann Christian Woyzeck, who has been charged with the killing of his lover in Leipzig, Germany, and his despair over the event. Sadari Movement Laboratory here creates an imaginative body /space performance with their one of a kind bodily expression and the use of their only prop: a wooden chair – to portray the story.
In addition, the bold sounds of modern tango virtuoso Astor Piazzolla provide to accent the production and mesmerise its viewers.

Sadari Movement Laboratory developed out of the Sadari Theater Company, founded in 1988 by IM Do-Wan and YOU Hong-Young. After completing his studies at the L'Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq in Paris, IM Do-Wan returned to Korea where he began his experiments with non-verbal kinetic theater. In 1999 he established the Sadari Movement Laboratory. All members are trained in the Jacques Lecoq method as well as traditional Korean dance to maximize SML's repertory. They are fully engaged in producing each theatrical experience ? from analysis and translation of the text to bringing it to life through kinetic images and versatile, economic movements. Stepping beyond dialogue and realist conventions, the company believes actors can express the social and psychological state of their characters more poignantly by utilizing separate spaces and dynamic rhythms that stress physical capabilities and characteristics. Through rigorous training and focused experimentation, Sadari Movement Laboratory is committed to finding a new theatre style and language for both Korean and international audiences.
